Weekly reflections: new milestones & and old haunts

This past week was my third week of half marathon training. It concluded Saturday with 7 miles. I have never done a 7 mile run before. I had my stuff ready and planned to go to Wollaston Beach in Quincy because you can get good mileage there and the breeze is usually decent to keep you cool. My plan was to do my run/walk segments, keep it modest, and feel it out.

It was much warmer and more humid than I would like. The sun did come out and provided some spectacular views as I ran along the boardwalk and out towards Squantum. About half way in, the weather and duration started kicking my butt. I definitely slowed, but completed my 7 miles and was really proud of myself. Milestone completed.

This is the cool thing about this training program. Every week now I will be experiencing a milestone. My long runs will only get longer and continue to move into uncharted territory for me. This is both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking. But I am here for it because I have goals and I can do hard things.

Last week I posted about the devil in the rear-view mirror. This very much was discussing our old memories, fears, pains, and struggles, and how they can continue to pop up. For me it is overeating. I still do not know how much is me and if there is something else going on. It will be a topic of convo for my doctor at my next visit, but it is frustrating. At the end of the day I want my nutrition to support my running goals and right now it is not doing a great job of that. So that is my biggest goal for this next week. That and running week number 4!

Have a great week!
